The Surgical Services Department is comprised of multiple units devoted to the care of surgical and endoscopy patients. Specialties served include General Surgery, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Podiatry, Ophthalmology, Vascular, Thoracic, Urology, Pain Management, Gastroenterology, and Bronchoscopy.

PAT – Pre Admission Testing
This unit is staffed by RN's, CRNA's, and anesthesiologists who interview and examine patients prior to the day of their procedures. Medical and surgical histories are taken, nursing and anesthesia assessments are completed as well as any testing the physicians deem necessary. Pre procedure instructions and anesthesia options are discussed with the patients.

Pre-operative Unit
All patients are admitted through this unit the day of the procedure. This unit is staffed by RNs. Patients are interviewed, paperwork completed, IV's begun and any medication ordered by the physician is given. Education is provided and questions answered. The surgeon will visit prior to transfer to the Operating Room or GI suite. Patients will be asked their name, date of birth, physician's name, and planned procedure to ensure the correct procedure is performed; surgical sites will be marked by the surgeon in cases of left and right; and allergies will be confirmed.

Operating Room
The Operating Room is staffed by surgeons, RN's, surgical technicians, anesthesia care providers (Anesthesiologists and CRNA's), and other assistants. Measures taken to ensure the safety of our patients include surgical site verification, surgical counts, time out procedures, and infection prevention strategies.

Endoscopy – GI and Bronchoscopy
This unit is staffed by physicians, anesthesia care providers, RNs, and surgical technicians. Procedures performed include EGD, colonoscopy, and bronchoscopy.

PACU – Post Anesthesia Care Unit
The PACU is staffed by RN's. This unit is devoted to the immediate recovery from anesthesia. Patients are closely monitored as they emerge from anesthesia. Pain control is a priority in this unit and we strive to keep our patients comfortable. After the initial recovery, patients are transferred to an inpatient unit or given instructions and discharged.

Pain Management
Dr Alosman offers pain management consultations and performs procedures aimed at relieving acute and chronic pain. This service is offered to both inpatients and outpatients. Appointments may be scheduled by calling 575-546-5892.

SPD – Sterile Processing
Staffed by technicians, this unit is devoted to cleaning, processing, and sterilizing equipment and instruments for use throughout the hospital.
